When I hear some statements, I feel sad for Nigeria ––Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said that terrorism and kidnapping were still major national challenges because Nigerians had not united against them as they did against the Ebola Virus.

Jonathan made the statement at an inter-denominational church service at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, to mark the country's 54th Independence Anniversary coming up on Wednesday:
"Take the case of Ebola for example; this is a good example all Nigerians must learn from. When Patrick Sawyer brought Ebola to Nigeria, it was in Lagos that this incidence happened and in terms of politics, Lagos is an opposition party state but the central government is the ruling party.
"From Lagos Ebola moved to Rivers State, also opposition party state.
"But because all Nigerians fought Ebola irrespective of political persuasion, irrespective of religion, irrespective of ethnicity, as individuals we defeated the disease."

The president frowned at inflammatory utterances by politicians, saying:
"We will not require people to come from heaven or other countries to solve our problems. What we require from our brothers and sisters is to encourage our military because it is not easy.

"When people are sleeping in their houses at night, they are busy fighting. Bullets are not badminton rackets or something. When I listen to some statements made by some people who call themselves leaders, I feel sad for the country.

"We must believe that we do not have any other country outside of Nigeria."

Fayemi: We’ll recover Ekiti from PDP; Governor-Elect Fayose Says No Way

Ekiti State is still in political mood. The All Progressives Congress has vowed not to allow strangers to take over the State. Its state Chairman, Jide Awe, said during the state Congress in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, that the party had "men and women of honour who are going to be at the vanguard of this struggle" to upturn the emergence of Ayo Fayose of the PDP as the state governor-elect.

Awe, who was returned as chairman, said, "This is our land. The land of the progressives, We won't allow any stranger to take it from us. The struggle for emancipation of Ekiti State has just started. I know we have men and women of honour who are going to be at the vanguard of this struggle. We at the head of the struggle will not shack in our responsibility."

Governor Kayode Fayemi, represented by his deputy, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, said he was optimistic that the APC would "overtake and recover " the state from the PDP.

Fayemi said, "The APC is getting stronger. The party is on the ground, effectively, efficiently and absolutely. From what I have witnessed, we still have a firm grip of the state."

But Governor-Elect, Ayo Fayose, said the APC leaders are merely deceiving themselves...

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, he said, "The APC leaders, especially, in Ekiti State are only deceiving themselves. If they think they are progressives, they are not because they are pretenders. They are wolves in sheep skin. PDP has won in Ekiti State; so, the APC should forget it.

"I want the Ekiti APC to know that by 2015, APC will exist only in name, especially in this state. It will have no structure because its members would have defected to the PDP.

"We are going to do this with landmark projects. Laudable programmes to be embarked upon by Fayose would make them to defect. For them to be saying they will recover Ekiti is just an imagination. They are daydreaming; it will never come to reality. For the next 50 years, APC will not come back to Ekiti State."

Also, the state PDP Publicity Secretary, Kola Oluwawole, said it was wrong for progressives that make up the PDP in the state to be referred to as strangers. He said, "We don't have any trouble with the tribunal because the election was free and fair. What we are complaining against is the procedure adopted by the judge in the case by the Ekiti 11.

"On the contrary, we (PDP) are the progressives. APC members in the state are not progressives; they are retrogressives. If they are progressives, they will know how to accept defeat."

GEJ places Nigerian flag designer Pa Akinkunmi on a life salary

President Goodluck Jonathan is scoring some good political points ahead of the 2015 general elections. He has done what many have been expecting from a responsible government by giving Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the designer of our country's flag, a national recognition. He has placed the elder statesman on the salary of a Special Assistant to the President for the rest of his life. Wow, that is good!

I’m Facing Hard Times ––TB Joshua Opens Up

Founder of Synagogue Church, Prophet TB Joshua, says he has been facing hard times since the collapse of his church guesthouse in Lagos. He has, however, said that he would survive the trying times.

A six-storey guesthouse belonging to the church collapsed last Friday, and as at the last count, about 80 persons have been confirmed dead with over 140 rescued alive.

TB Joshua has assured all who believe in his good works that would not be destroyed by the incident:
"Hard times may test me, they cannot destroy me," TB Joshua said, adding, "To withstand hard times, stand with Christ. When you face trials, hard times, you can count it all joy if you add faith."

Quoting the Bible, TB Joshua reached out to his thousands of followers across the world via the social network, just as he stated that God sometimes makes use of hard times to "draw us to Himself."

According to TB Joshua, in a message on SCOAN official Facebook page, God visits His people with hard times because people often become "proud and stupid with wealth and pleasure."

He added, "It is through hard times that you gain the necessary experience and maturity to handle whatever responsibility given you. We are most likely to go astray from God and forget Him when things are easy with us in the world because we often become proud and stupid with wealth and pleasure.

"God visits His people with hard times that they may learn His way. His ways, though hard to the ungodly men, are desirable and profitable because they lead us to safety unto eternal life. God allowed the enemy to overcome Israel so that they may learn the difference between serving God and serving the devil.

"If not for our hard times, we would not have sought the face of God. I mean, if not because of hard times, man by his wicked nature, would not have sought the face of God. This means, God sometimes uses hard times to draw us to Him so that we can take our proper position and possession in Him."

TB Joshua Reveals how Strange Aircraft Collapsed his Building

The General Overseer of The Synagogue Church of All Nations, Temitope Joshua, is not bothered by all the antics of the enemy and he remains unshaken in the midst of his current challenges.

The popular Prophet has linked the collapse of the guest house building inside his church premises to one very "strange aircraft" which he said hovered around the building before its collapse. Prophet Joshua said the plane hovered around the collapsed building for over 30 minutes.
Briefing journalists on the incident on Saturday, Prophet TB Joshua played a CCTV footage of a flying aircraft to back his claim. In the footage, a plane was seen flying over the collapsed guest house at four different times on Friday morning — 11: 30 a.m, 11: 43 a.m, 11:45 a.m and 11: 54 a.m. The ‎building collapsed at 12:44 p.m Friday afternoon.

He spoke just as emergency officials said 17 people died in the incident while 123 others were evacuated alive and rushed to hospital. The respected prophet said he was the target of the attack but added that the enemy failed.

I wonder why some people don't like good thing. This man is helping many families, why attack him? Indeed, strange things are happening. My question is: Who is after Prophet TB Joshua? Who is not happy for the good works he is doing that they want to bring him down at all cost? #DiaRisGodO

Photos: Miracle Happens at TB Joshua's Collapsed Building Site

Amidst the chaos and pandemonium that ensued when a guest-house at Synagogue Church suddenly came down crashing in the early afternoon of Saturday 12th September 2014, tales of miraculous survival have begun to emerge.

"Thank You, Jesus", a cry rang out from an onlooker, followed by a burst of relieved applause from the crowd of church helpers and rescue workers. They had been working non-stop since the giant building was reduced to rubble in a matter of seconds the previous day.

From a tiny hole at the far side of the wreckage, a body was being brought out. "She's alive," a man beside me reassured. Straining to look closer, I saw the woman, who was being stretchered toward an awaiting ambulance, waving her hands. "God of TB Joshua, you are wonderful," the rescued lady exclaimed, her voice extraordinarily strong. She had been in the dark, under the rubble for over 24 hours.

"Bros," I overheard a worker confiding in his colleague, "if not for God, no one should be brought out alive from there." It was hard to disagree with his sentiment looking at the mangled remains of what was a six-storey building nearing completion.
"They've found another one," a cry excitedly broke my musing, another cheer reverberating among onlookers. Despite the tragedy, the spirit of camaraderie was warming to behold. A small child was being brought out of the wreckage alive. "Wait," one of the rescue team cautioned. "Her mother is still inside." Moments later, mother and daughter were reunited...

"One thing you have to understand," an official of Nigeria's Emergency Management Association (NEMA) official told me on the condition of anonymity, "90% of those being rescued were eating or working the bottom floor of the building when it collapsed." He shook his head in disbelief. "How they survived beats my imagination."

"The situation could have turned out much worse," another member of the rescue team named Sunday corroborated. "If not for God, we could be talking of over 100 fatalities."

I made my way toward one of the ambulances preparing to leave, hoping to catch a glimpse of another survivor. A man in his late 40s lay there, wet with sweat, bruised and breathing heavily. The discussion I overhead was poignant. "Was I really in that building," he faintly questioned the nurse as she held his hand. "Thank your God," she quietly replied. "We should call your name miracle."

During a three-hour visit to The SCOAN, I witnessed no fewer than 30 people brought out of the wreckage through the concerted efforts of the rescue teams. All were alive.

[NEMA officials said over 120 people were rescued alive from the rubble with about 40 deaths recorded].

Daylight r*pist Lynched in LAUTECH! [Photos]

In recent times, the crime rate at Ogbomoso, Oyo State has become inordinately high. And this is more so the case in areas where the student populace of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Akure (LAUTECH) reside.

With reports of theft, burglary, assault and r*pe, among other vices on the rise, the students of the institution residing at Adenike area again rose to an uproar on September 6, as one of the notorious armed robbers-cum-r*pist was finally caught in the act.

Minimal violence ensued as the intended victims called the Students' Union leadership and handed the criminal over to them. The Speaker of the Students Representative Council, Olalekan Salami, alongside other members of the House, took the criminal in the Unions' bus, but unfortunately, on their way to the Police Station, the bus was involved in a mysterious accident, leaving a severe injury on Olalekan and 14 other persons in the bus with the exception of the criminal, Segun (last name withheld).

This accident further enraged the already pensive students as they promptly descended on the thief, stripped him naked and beat him severely. The police, prior to this time had already been summoned, so the students' protest was halted at Orita Naira, where the Police Force demanded that the criminal be released to them.

The Students' Union President, Areo Ajibola and the student leader, Bolarinwa Sheriffdeen, reacting on behalf of the entire students, refused to release him. The school authorities' representatives present at the scene; Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Timothy Adebayo, Dean of Students' Affairs, Dr Tunde Olabiyisi and Deputy Dean of Students' Affairs, Dr Ishola, aided in calming down the students.

After much deliberations among the police force, the school authorities, the student leaders and the aggrieved town people, Segun was released on the agreement that he would be taken to Souns' palace.

However, a police barricade at Iyana Owode, obstructed and redirected the protestants from their initial destination to the Ogbomoso Police Station.

Upon arrival at the police station, only Segun, Professor Adebayo, Dr Olabiyisi, Dr Ishola, Areo, Sheriffdeen, and two National Union of Campus Journalists members were allowed entrance into the police grounds.

After a lengthy meeting, the Area Commander and the District Police Officer assured the student leaders of justice and maximum security for the school and the town as a whole henceforth.

Famous Veterans Yoruba actor, Aworo Now A Full Time Babalawo In Ado Ekiti (Photo)

Veteran Yoruba actor Chief Jimoh Aliu (MFR), who is popularly known as Aworo is in the news.  For some years now,  Aworo has been out of the movie scene after his relocation to Ekiti State and the reason behind that was unknown to many. While some people were insinuating that he made that decision to stay away from the many crisis in ANTP before the union later collapsed and some other people had other insinuations different from that.  However, Yorubamoviegist.com can reveal to you from findings, that the Fopomoyo producer has partially dumped acting to become a full time Babalawo (an Herbalist) in Ado Ekiti, the capital of his current state of abode. A close source also hinted to us that  one of the main reasons he made the decision was because he is  fed up with the film industry in Nigeria. Because after the seriuos stress they go through to shoot their movies, CD pirates mass priduce it and thereby make all the gain while the movie owner woul run at a loss. And with his status and age in the industry, he can't just cope with that. The source further told us that when Aworo travelled abroad, he saw many of Nigeria videos in shops and his heart skipped over how those CDs got abroad. And rather than continue shooting films, he later decided to be writing books. He is said to have written about 3 books which one of them is written for Lagos, Ogun, Kwara and Oyo states' secondary schools. Another one is "Ojulowo Ogun Ekiti Parapo" which came out not too long ago, and the third one is titled "Yankan Yanrin".  With his new calling (Baba Alawo), Aworo is said to be living a good life now due to the fact that he has a lot of foreigners as customers.

Meet Prophet TB Joshua, the Main Man at the Synagogue

Enigmatic in many people's estimation, Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations, is one man few words can hardly describe, like the large following he enjoys.

Wherever he goes, the people follow him. From Nigeria to Liberia, South Africa to Zimbabwe and even to other parts of the world, he is mobbed in grand style whenever he makes an entry. He is no messiah, but the multitudes follow him for preaching the Messiah. And like the early apostles, he has endured persecution in different forms.

Born on June 12, 1963 in Arigidi, Ondo State, South-West Nigeria, Joshua has mysteries following him even as a child. Reports once claimed he spent about 15 months in his mother's womb instead of nine months and narrowly escaped death after a quarry explosion near his family home almost ended his life barely one week after he was delivered.

Though, described as "small pastor" while still in primary school because of his love for the Bible, TB Joshua, according to his biography, never finished even one year in secondary school.

But having shrugged off those shaky beginnings, the cleric is today regarded as one of Africa's 50 most influential people and one of the most revered preachers in the world. For his humanitarian efforts, Federal Government in 2008 decorated him with the national honour of Officer of the Federal Republic.
Joshua's church empire did not just take a strategic location on the religious map – the success seen today followed years of underground work and rigorous effort by all those who believed in its future...

Starting out with a handful of members a few years back, the Synagogue Church of All Nations today records as much as 15,000 worshippers for a Sunday service alone while thousands more troop to the church from other parts of Nigeria and beyond for the rest of the week in desperate search for different spiritual answers. Respected British tabloid, The Guardian once reported that the SCOAN situated in Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos, Nigeria's commercial power house, attracts more weekly attendees than the combined number of visitors to Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London. As a result of constant growth over recent years, the church has established branches in Ghana and the United Kingdom.

But despite the expansion and growth of his ministry, Joshua has constantly come under rash criticism from many who question his prophecies and his claims of miracles. Thousands of visitors besiege the church each week for prayers from the preacher and his "Wise Men." The church has published numerous videos claiming to document the healing of incurable disabilities and illnesses such as HIV/AIDS but many see them as mere propaganda.

The use of 'anointing water' has also been a hotly debated issue with many doubting the healing power of such items as claimed by the Ondo-State-born prophet. The 'water' sparked controversy when four people died in a stampede in Joshua's Ghanaian branch last year when an unadvertised service where it was being distributed drew huge crowds far beyond the church capacity, leaving Ghana's capital city Accra, scampering for breath.

That is not all. The controversies also extend to the areas of 'deliverance' of people allegedly possessed by evil spirits. A classic example is the case of the wife of former Ghanaian national team goal keeper, Richard Kingson, who was purportedly freed of an evil spirit which was responsible for her husband's failure to land a good contract with an established European football team for years. Reports say after that encounter, Kingson secured a contract with Turkish club, Balikesirspor. But the Ghanaian pair denied the claim, leaving Joshua at the mercy of critics.

The SCOAN also claims that Joshua has successfully predicted events in the lives of individuals who attend his church services as well as worldwide events, including a prophecy of Michael Jackson's death, the Boston bombing attacks in America and the outcome of two African Cup of Nations final matches, which were won by Zambia and Nigeria respectively.

His alleged prophecy about the death of an African president was widely reported in African press. Joshua's followers believe the prophecy concerned the former president of Malawi Bingu wa Mutharika who died in 2012. After his death, Joshua's message about involving youth in politics reportedly influenced Malawi's former president Joyce Banda in her choice of a youthful vice presidential candidate in the upcoming Malawian elections.

Joshua's prophecy about the crash of Malaysian Airlines MH370 several months before the incident attracted international media attention with its accompanying YouTube video going viral and amassing over 900,000 views in weeks.

Soldiers Get Angry, Kill 150 Boko Haram fighters in Konduga

No fewer than 150 suspected members of the outlawed Boko Haram sect were killed by soldiers on Friday during a confrontation in Konduga, about 35 kilometres from Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

It was learnt that hundreds of terrorists stormed Konduga in the early hours of Friday in a convoy of jeeps and motorcycles, but were adequately resisted and contained by the re-energized soldiers.

A member of the local vigilance group, Kolobe Abdullahi, told journalists that the residents could not sleep on Thursday night when they got the hint that insurgents intended to attack the town.
Abdullahi said, "People saw them when they were coming and they were seriously dealt with. As I am telling you, more than 100 of the Boko Haram members were killed and several others were injured.
"We destroyed all their utility vehicles, some cars and motorcycles. We also seized some arms and vehicles."
A military source within the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri also confirmed on the phone that the Boko Haram members "were dealt with."

The military authorities confirmed the killing, adding that three Hilux vans and one other Buffalo vehicle with mounted anti-aircraft guns, three general purpose machine guns and over 30 AK 47 rifles were recovered from the terrorists.

A statement issued in Abuja by Col. T. Antigha of the Army Public Relations said four soldiers were injured in the three-hour battle. The Army said photographs taken at the scene of battle would be circulated as soon as they are available.

The statement read, "At about 5.30 am today (Friday), Boko Haram terrorists launched a massive attack on Konduga town, about 35 kilometres from Maiduguri. After about three hours of fierce fighting, Nigerian troops routed the Boko Haram fighting force of over a hundred terrorists.

"Further to the staggering loss of men, Boko Haram also suffered extensive losses in equipment. Four Nigerian soldiers were wounded in action. The entire area is still being combed for terrorists who may have escaped with bullet wounds. Morale of troops remains very high."

Update: Nobody Died at TB Joshua's church Building Collapse

The spokesman for National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), South-West Zone, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, had stated that about three people died, while majority of the media reported that 15 people lost their lives in the collapsed guests house inside Synagogue church premises in Lagos.

But the Synagogue Church has said no one has been confirmed dead as a result of the building collapse. The media department of the church said contrary to all the media reports, no one is also trapped in the rubble. They added that those who were injured are being cared for.

The church has promised to release an official statement on the incident.

PHOTOs From 9ice Political Campaign yesterday

Singer 9ice, who is from Ogbomoso, Oyo state, visited his constituency today September 10th for awareness campaign and to identify with the electorate. He addressed a large crowd that gathered at the Town hall in Oja Igbo, and promised that if elected to represent Ogbomoso Federal constituency 1, he will use this salary to do developmental projects in the constituency.

9ice declared his intentions to go into politics many weeks ago. He plans to contest for House of Reps in 2015.

SCREEN GRABS! Toni Payne, 9ice Ex Might Make Him Lose His Election

It's no longer news that 9ice is seeking to be elected as a House of Representative member in the Ogbomoso North/South/Orire Constituency cum 2015.

However, what is news, is fact that Toni Payne has refused to accept that she won't be First Lady *sips tea*. Homegirl has been on Twitter, venting and throwing shots at her ex with subliminal tweets.

But then again, Toni might have a point you know. 9ice just tweeted some hours ago (pictured above) – wishing his daughter a happy belated birthday. Apparently, he was too busy to remember his little munchkin had a birthday yesterday.

Btw, just in case you've been living under a rock – 9ice is expecting another child with current girlfriend Olasunkanmi Ajala.

With his campaign posters already flooding the streets of Ogbomoso – one question is glaring – if he forgot something as important and special as his daughter's birthday, how does he intend to remember the people of Ogbomoso if he gets elected?

Man Robs GTBank with Invincible Ring; But the RING Fails him

The ploy by a desperate man to walk into a branch of GTBank and walk out with a bag full of money, took him to a witch-doctor who gave him an INVINCIBLE RING. Unfortunately for him, he wore the ring, stormed the bank and started parking money into a bag, not knowing that he was not invincible.

The surprised bank cashiers pounced on him and grabbed him until the police arrived. When he was asked the reason for his action, the man confessed that he thought he was actually invincible. *lmao*

2015 Presidency: Why Tambuwal Is Not Qualified To Contest- APC

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and close associate of the former Head of State General Muhammadu Buhari, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, has declared that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, is not qualified to contest the presidential election in 2015 on the platform of the party. Obono-Obla, a radical lawyer and anti-corruption crusader, stated this against the backdrop of speculations making the rounds in the country that Tambuwal intends to contest the next presidential election on the APC platform.

Reacting to the speculations yesterday through a text he made available to newsmen in Calabar, Obono-Obla argued that at the moment, certain provisions of the APC constitution disqualifies Tambuwal from flying the flag of the party, especially as the speaker is still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Obono-Obla, who served as the Deputy National Secretary of defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), said: "Speculation is rife in the media and rumour parlours of the possibility of Tambuwal defecting to the APC in order to seek nomination as its presidential candidate for the 2015 general election. He has still not defected, despite months of speculation that he wants to defect to the opposition."

"The last time Tambuwal was confronted by media over the probability of his running for nomination of the APC presidential ticket, he said he was still consulting. Last week, the APC released the guidelines for the conduct of its presidential primary election to nominate its presidential candidate for the 2015 general election. Tentatively, the date for the obtaining of the expression of interest form for the presidential primary election is September 24, and the sale of nomination form will start on September 25 to the October 2, 2015."

"October 25th has been fixed as the date for holding the national special convention to endorse and ratify the presidential candidate of the APC. It is an incontrovertible fact that Tambuwal is not a member of the APC. He is therefore not eligible to contest in its presidential primary election or seek the nomination of its presidential ticket. Article 20 (iv) (a) of the constitution of the APC, 2013 (as amended) provides that an aspirant seeking nomination at the party primary election must be a financially up-to-date member who has paid all dues and as when due."

"It is therefore beyond argument that Tambuwal is not a financially up-to-date member of the APC because he is not a member of the party. He is not qualified to contest in the APC presidential primary election. However, if Tambuwal resigns his membership of the PDP and defects to the APC he can only be eligible to contest in the presidential primary election if he is granted a waiver by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party by virtue of Schedule II (2) of the APC constitution. Schedule II (1) (i) of the APC Constitution provides thus: "No person shall be eligible to contest for any party position or be nominated by the Party to be its candidate at any election if the person is not a Member of the party."

Obono-Obla continued, "In any case, even if Tambuwal is granted a waiver (in the event he defects to APC and decides to seek its presidential nomination) he would be placed in a disadvantageous position because he does not belong to any of the four blocks that constitute the APC. These are the Bola Ahmed Tinubu's bloc; Buhari's bloc; the old ANPP bloc; and the governors' bloc. Decidedly, the APC will be shooting itself if it nominates as its presidential candidate a 'green horn' such as Tambuwal. Tambuwal evidently lacks the political savvy and experience to run the affairs of a badly fractured country like Nigeria despite the media hype about his chances in a presidential race."

When the Oyinbo people are doing research to build big planes, massive ships and other great inventions, the blacks won't copy them by also invest enough time to study, research and make inventions. But once some blacks see a white person doing crazy stuffs, they copy that one immediately.

The pix above is that of our black sister, Latrice Royal, who is struggling to be like Lady Gaga. *sigh*

Soldiers Flee, Hunters Fight & Kill 75 Boko Haram in Adamawa

The danger in things like this is that when the war is over, there will be too many sophisticated arms in the hands of civilians and if these people don't have money, they too will become criminals. Watch it!

Hours after Nigerian soldiers were caught on tape fleeing from invading Boko Haram terrorists, the crazy guys who have annexed some towns and villages in Northern Senatorial zone of Adamawa State have suffered a very serious defeat as local hunters pounced on them, killing over 75 of the insurgents, sources in the area reveal.
A resident of the town who simply identify himself Vandi said that the insurgents have been demystified when they run short as hunters capitalized on that to kill many of them.
"As I am speaking to you, our youths and vigilante ambushed and killed over 75 Boko Haram members today," he said.

The insurgents have recently been launching audacious attacks on the border towns of Michika and Madagali local government areas of the state as they sent thousands of residents packing and hoisted their flags as they took control of the areas.

Reports indicated that the insurgents met their waterloo after they ran short of ammunitions following  many encounters with Nigerian troops and after series of aerial bombardment by the jet fighters.

It was gathered that as a result of the development, normalcy have started returning to Michika as Nigerian troops are gradually taking control of the annexed areas as the insurgents beat a retreat.

Security sources told Leadership that normalcy have started returning to the area as local hunters have dealt a serious blow to the terrorists.

Also a local hunter who claims to be part of the operation said they killed many of the insurgents who beat a retreat to nearby villages.

Teachers to Go on Strike over New Schools’ Resumption Date

The Nigerian Union of Teachers has threatened to go on strike if the Federal Government fails to put in place measures to protect its members and pupils from contracting the deadly Ebola Virus Disease before the resumption of schools all over the country.

The NUT National President, Michael Alogba, in a telephone interview with Punch on Wednesday, stated that the union would not allow any of its members to teach until it was scientifically and medically proven that the country was out of the Ebola scourge.
He said: "Though I don't want to preempt the outcome of the meeting but as teachers who have families and who should protect our future, I mean our students, we will shun the classes; we will call for strike.
"What kind of government is this, don't they know that children can never be as hygienic as adults? Don't they know that the immunity level of children is not as high as that of adults?"

The Federal Government initially fixed October 13 as schools' resumption date but it later announced the new date, saying that the country was almost Ebola-free.

But the new date drew criticism from doctors, activists and groups who alleged that the government was in a way stampeded into announcing it by some powerful school proprietors.

NUT Chairman, Alogba, said the teachers had already written the Federal Government about its position on the September 22 date.

He warned that if the new date was not extended by Monday, the NUT national executive council would meet on Tuesday in Abuja to take a drastic action.

The NUT chairman said, "In any sane society, decision such as this will not be taken until the government and all stakeholders have met and discussed the issue at stake and are sure that the nation is scientifically and medical free from the scourge.

"But this is not the case in our country. When they arrived at the early October 13 date, they wrote us and we agreed with their argument but when this new date was given, they did not because of the influence of some powerful school owners who put pressure on them (Federal Government) to announce the September 22 date.

"Anyway, we have written to tell them that if the Federal Government does not shift the date and provide all necessary safety measures in schools before Monday next week, all NUT leaders will meet in Abuja by 9am on Tuesday to decide our fate by ourselves."

But the Federal Government says there is no going back on the new date. Clash imminent!

Presidency Begs Retired Soldiers to Fight against Boko Haram; But they are Hungry

I wonders if these men in positions of authority in Nigeria today are thinking through all their actions. How can you be calling on retired soldiers to come and take arms to fight against Boko Haram when you are owing them several months arrears? How do you expect them to feed their family?

Anyway, the retired soldiers protested in Abuja on Wednesday to tell the Presidency they are hungry and that they've made enough sacrifices for Nigeria. Now, all they want is their money.

Those in government have deceived us for too long. Let them just pay us our pension arrears. Simple!
