Emir Escapes from Palace as Boko Haram Storms CDS’s Town

Scores of insurgents were killed on Tuesday following their invasion of the university town of Mubi in the now troubled Adamawa State. Attempts by the insurgents to hit Vimtim, Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh's village, were said to have been repelled by Nigerian soldiers.

Another report late last night said Boko Haram insurgents may have finally captured the town.

But the military launched a counter offensive in Bazza to retake the town. The Federal Government said Bama, Borno State's second largest city had been retaken from the insurgents, who reportedly suffered heavy losses. It was claimed that over 50 of their men were killed.
Also, it was learnt that troops led by Gen. JS Zaruwa recaptured Bazza, one of the towns seized by Boko Haram insurgents.
A senior military source said troops retook Bazza after a fierce battle in which soldiers killed many Boko Haram militants.

According to The Nation, in a broadcast, acting governor Umaru Fintiri said he had got the Military High Command to ensure "immediate response to halt the incursions within the shortest possible time".

He added: "I hereby call for calm in the affected areas and that no one should panic, raise false alarm and rumours capable of further throwing innocent people into confusion.

"I passionately appeal to all citizens in Mubi and surrounding villages to remain where they are and not move out as the military and security are there are on high alert and ready to defend the area."

Vimtim is less than five kilometers to Mubi, Adamawa State's second largest town.

The development has led to the relocation of the Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Abubakar Isa Ahmadu, and thousands of his subjects, under heavy security, to Yola, the state capital.

According to the Defence Headquarters, in a terse statement, the troops had a fierce battle with the Boko Haram fighters in Mubi.b

DHQ said: "Counter terrorism troops today carried out an attack on Insurgents in Mubi town, Adamawa State. In the fierce battle to root out the insurgents, scores of insurgents lost their lives while several others escaped with fatal gunshot wounds.

"Two officers and three soldiers who were wounded in the battle are currently receiving treatment in a military medical facility."

Female Student R*ped by her Boyfriend and his Four Friends

This mess is becoming too rampant these days. I just wonder what's pushing our youths to commit such stupid act. As you read this, five guys have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command over the alleged gang-r*ping of Miss Favour Orji, a student of Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro.

According to a press statement by the Command's PRO, DSP Celestina Kalu, the suspects are:
Ekperierie Weomazino, Awolowo Abel, Chukwuka Godspower, Wilson Odili and Ojumah Kelvin.

Findings indicated that in the afternoon of 30 August, 2014, one of the suspects, Ekperierie Weomazino, who is also a student of the Polytechnic, invited Favour to escort him to Owhelegbo junction in the town to collect his handset. She obliged and followed her boyfriend...

The lady added that on reaching the junction, Ekperierie and the four others dragged her into a corner and r*ped her. They didn't just stop there, the stupid guys photographed in the shameful state.

Upon receiving the complains of the victim on 4 September, operatives of the Division swung into action and arrested the suspects.

DSP Kalu has assured that the Boyfriend and his guys would face the full wrath of the law.

Jonathan will Win in 2015 with Men Like Me in PDP –Uzor Kalu

Orji Uzor Kalu, ex-Governor of Abia State, visited the national secretariat of the PDP in Abuja on Tuesday where he made a lot of sweet talk. He claimed that the insurgency ravaging the North Eastern part of the country is instigated by people who do not like President Jonathan to lead the country.

He however boasted that PDP can't be defeated in 2015 because of men like him who are in the party.

"The insurgency is politically-motivated because there is no other thing to do. "It is instigated by people who do not want President Jonathan to be president."
Insisting that the 2015 election will be a walk-over for the PDP, kalu said: "How can the PDP lose the presidency when it has people like us who are very popular and creating jobs every day? I do not see how PDP will lose the election in 2015?"

He added that, "Democracy is not about one person or President Jonathan. We have to bring our efforts together so as to move democracy forward. President Jonathan is doing everything possible to bring the Chibok girls' back. We must thank our military men for the job they are doing."

"Insurgency is a new thing to us. Insurgency is politically-motivated and it is the people who think Jonathan should not contest the 2015 that are behind it. They should allow him finish his tenure," he stressed.

SEE What This Beautiful Girl Is Doing To Herself

Some ladies just don't like anything called "discipline" and this babe is one of such. She is attending one of the Christian Universities where dressing indecently is not allowed but she decided to go against the rules by stepping out in this night-club dress in broad daylight, just to dare the school management.

Other students couldn't help but follow her around in the premises, taking pictures of her craze. Smh!

I’m Eager to Return to the Battlefield ––Obasanjo’s Son

Lt. Col. Adeboye Obasanjo, son of former president Olusegun Obasanjo who was wounded in a fire-fight in Bazza between the military and Boko Haram terrorists on Monday, has expressed eagerness to return to the battleground as soon as he fully recovers.

The younger Obasanjo stated this on Tuesday when former vice president Atiku Abubakar paid him a visit at a government medical facility in Yola where he is receiving treatment.

He added that the former vice president praised the gallant spirit of Obasanjo, prompting him to comment that the young man inherited the trait from his former boss.
"He was even marching before me, even as he was recovering from gunshots," Atiku reportedly said, while wishing him speedy recovery.

Ebola Scare In OAU Ile- Ife As Female Student Is Quarantined

A female student of the Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU), Ile-Ife has been moved to Lagos for Ebola Virus screening. This was contained in a statement by the Public Relations of the university, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju late on Tuesday. According to the statement, "A female student of the OAU, Ile-Ife who is suspected to be a secondary contact of the Ebola Virus Disease in Port-Harcourt, presented sick at the University Health Centre. After a clinical assessment by the Ebola Surveillance Preparedness and Response Committee of the University, the authorities
thereafter contacted the State Ministry of Health, the Federal Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation(WHO). The female suspected secondary Ebola contact has since been evacuated to the appropriate facility in Lagos for further investigations to confirm her status."
Though not confirmed if it's an Ebola case yet, Olanrewaju said appropriate preventive and protective measures have been taken as he added that, "In the meantime, the National team and the World Health Organisation team on Ebola Control have promptly decontaminated the University Health Centre despite the fact that the case is yet to be confirmed. The University authorities wish to emphasise the fact that the case is not a confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease and therefore request all members of the University Community to remain calm as the situation is fully under control."  Going by reports, a student of the university, who pleaded anonymity, said the female student who recently returned from Port Harcourt, was, in the early hours of Tuesday, rushed to the university's health centre from where he was referred to the OAUTHC. The scare disrupted academics and social activities at OAU yesterday, while the university PRO has allayed fear of the university community and the entire Ile-Ife town, charging them not to fear over the development.
In a related development, the Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Temitope Ilori had spoken before the university's statement that, "I was told that a student of the OAU who had contact with the doctor who died of the Ebola virus in Port Harcourt walked into the health centre when she was sick. She was said to have told doctors at the health centre that she had contact with the Port Harcourt doctor and was put under surveillance but she said she tested negative that time. Now she returned to the OAU to continue with her studies and was sick. She was said to have walked to the health centre and told them everything about her contact with the doctor. Her blood sample has been taken for another test in Lagos and we are awaiting the result. We pray she is not positive but she has been isolated at the health centre."

Pastor Chris' wife not Divorcing him for Adult*ry; See her reason

Facts have emerged that the ground on which Pastor Anita Oyakhilome is seeking to divorce her husband, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy, is not adul-tery but on behaviours that suggest that she cannot 'reasonably be expected' to live with him.

There had been media reports that Anita decided to divorce Pastor Chris based on allegations of 'adul-tery' and 'unreasonable behaviours' but a copy of the court papers for the divorce process filed at the Principal Registry of the Family Division (PRFD) of the High Court of Justice in possession of THISDAY, revealed that she applied for "divorce on the ground that the marriage has broken down irretrievably."
But in her statement of case in support of petition at PRFD with number FD14001650, Pastor Anita however, accused her husband of having inappropriate relationship with some of his female staff members...

According to the statement, "the wife has discussed with the husband his inappropriate relationship with some of his female staff members. She has explained that this has given her cause for concern. The husband has minimised her worries and taken no step to alleviate her grievances."

In fact, the statement indicated no allegation of adultery as there was no co-respondent to the petition and no names were mentioned.

Dictionary.com defines adultery as "voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not their spouse."

The statement reads in part: "The wife submits that her marriage to the husband has irretrievably broken down and there is no hope of reconciliation. The wife will submit that it is the husband's unreasonable behaviours which have led to this.

"The husband and the wife are both Pastors. The husband undertakes his work, in the main, in South Africa and Nigeria. The wife lives in the United Kingdom. The wife will say that they have lived separately for 16 years and over this time have drifted apart. The wife has come to realise that the husband will only visit the UK for annual church programmes that he holds rather than to be with this wife. The wife feels that he has been unavailable as a father to their children during their developing years.

"The wife feels that their marriage suffered under the pressure of their work. They would rarely spend time together due to the husband unavailability. Special occasions such as Christmas, Birthdays and family occasions and anniversaries past them by and their rarely spent any time together as a family as the husband was more devoted to his work than he was to them.

"The wife feels that she has been used to portray and enhance the husband's image as a family man when the reality is that there is no existing relationship between them. She feels that she has been present for official functions simply for his convenience. On occasions she has been copied into his travel itinerary which has been given to him by his staff on a need to know basis.
"The wife has tried to discuss her concerns with the husband. He claims that she is carnal and he is insensitive to her feelings and her needs."

"As a result of the husband's attitude to their marriage, the wife will say that he is virtually not recognised as a married man in the ministry. His teachings and beliefs on marriage is that the husband is a master and a controller and the wife will say that his concept of biblical; submission is so extreme that it is impossible for her to meet his expectations. She feels humiliated by the way he treats her in the presence of his close female staff members and she feels that she has been taken for granted which has become unbearably stressful for her.

"The wife will say that the relationship with the husband is non-existent to the point that his itinerary which was announced publicly at the beginning of the year had no provision for time with his family. His staff members who travel with him organise both his personal and professional life without any input from her. The wife will say that she is treated with disregard almost like akin to an intruder.

"The wife feels that she has been mentally, physically and emotionally deprived of the experience of a marital relationship. She feels that the husband has persistently judged her and his communication with her has been unduly harsh. The wife knows that he was hard to please and has been extremely critical.

"The wife reserves the right to expand on all of these particulars if the divorce petition is defended."

TB Joshua Speaks on Pope Francis: Please Pray for the Pope

Prophet T.B. Joshua gave another surprising revelation in his church service on Sunday 7th August 2014, specifically calling for prayers for Pope Francis of the Catholic Church, as well as prophesying an imminent hijacking of a plane by 'militants'.

"There is a very big religious leader," Joshua began, describing the said person as a 'father' figure, widely respected across different religions.

"I have been praying for him," he continued, adding that he received an alarming 'vision' concerning him the prior day. They should pray for him," Joshua proceeded.

"The clergyman I am talking about is the Pope," he then clarified.

Continuing, Joshua prophetically warned of a plane being hijacked by 'militant' forces in a dramatic scene that would result in 'breaking news' worldwide.

"They will attempt to enter a plane," the cleric declared. "You will hear 'Breaking News' of a hijacker inside the plane that carried the plane from its original direction to another direction."

"We should pray so that it will not just end like that and we learn that there's a crash," he said, seemingly referring to the infamous Al Quaeda attack against America on September 11th 2001 where four commercial planes were hijacked by the terrorists.

"This is another big attempt they want to do," Joshua warned, soliciting heightened security checks in airports worldwide to avert the impending disaster.

Last week, T.B. Joshua gave a widely reported prophecy concerning 'approaching' world events.

He said he had a vision of US President Barack Obama being rushed to hospital with a health challenge, a plane crash in the region around Russia and Ukraine and a political crisis in Nigeria sparked by the murder of a 'bigshot'.

Joshua reminded those in church of the prophecy, adding that the killing of al-Shabab's spiritual leader Ahmed Abdi Godane by US forces in an airstrike on Monday showed 'God' was involved.

Joshua had specifically called for prayer for Kenya related to a 'militant' plan in place to attack a presidential figure in Southern Africa.

Mr. President, Here is Gwoza You Say You Don’t Know by Rabiu Usman

The mind can only be distraught on matters that it is consented to. What you lack knowledge about bother you less because an individual gets his feet knocked off the ground largely by bothering much on difficulties than the difficulty itself. We have to spare the President any criticism further, and retract the many aspersions spewed on him over not acknowledging the abduction of Chibok Girls until after more than two weeks, and recently, for not memorising and assimilating the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria. It must be a daunting task for him to cram such number of LGA's even if he has been in possession of a couple of current affairs pamphlet during his yore days for job or employment interview purposes.

While we soften the pedal on criticising the President based on the aforementioned verdicts, certain facts here makes him more culpable and as a leader that have reduced the country to the size of Central Area of Abuja; what were the routine reports of the NSA, Colonel Sambo Dasuki to the President on the state of insecurity in the nation about? Was Dasuki misleading the president with the well-being of Aghenebode in Edo state over the trauma of Gwoza in Borno?
Didn't he mentioned to Presidents Jonathan that sometimes in May, more than two hundreds souls were annihilated in a space of a week by insurgents? Didn't Sambo Dasuki narrates the tales of two first class monarch from Borno, that were attacked by insurgents while on their way to Gombe state with one of them loosing his life in the process?

If there is any area a sincere leader ought to be conversant with at this time of our crossroads should be not less than the troubled zones of the nation.

Mr. President's palpable rhetoric is just a revelation out of a possible many heart drenching others. It is an outburst that should clear our eyes of the cataracts that has blinded us from how grossly duty is abdicated among public office holders. It has vindicated further how disconnected rural areas are from the impact of leadership. Really, the president doesn't give a damn. Not until he'll be able to garner a handful of votes from Gwoza. A troubled Gwoza is the ruling government's gain and the opposition's lost politically. It is on record that the president has never visited any insurgent victims outside Abuja since the advent of this carnage, save for his visit to Maiduguri on a meeting with th elders of Borno for more than a year ago. This is a huge manifestation of disconnect between leadership and the people.

Every single arm of the government is being dismantle from its function. There is no iota of productive output in them, they've become mere card carrying monuments that are occupied by various cronies of the leadership to enrich themselves and to fund the apex government's re-election rallies and jingles through the back door of fundraising for insurgents and education support programmes.

The last straw of credibility in the nation, the Military has since become dysfunctional. The murky atmosphere of the nation's politics has encroach into the once formidable agency. The pride of the nation and West Africa. In the past, there was security funds with no insecurity. In the present there is insecurity with a looted security budgets. The decade long institutionalised corruption in security sector has created a grey spot to the advantage of insurgents dispersing our formations and making them to fall like a house of cards.

Again, for how long will the government continue to live in denials of the reality that stares at us? Here is Gwoza, the base of Nigeria Mobile Police Training, being overran by insurgents with thousands of its inhabitants displaced. So, Mr. President, not only Gwoza sef; Bama, Gamboru-Ngala, Damboa and Buni Yadi needs you to reason their matter. This is not a joke. This is a matter of survival! May God have mercy on us.

Lagos Archbishop Okogie Slams Chris & Anita: Are they Living by What They Preach?

Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, has described the developments in the home of Pastor Chris and Anita Oyakhilome as very disturbing, arguing that when ministers of God begin to wash their dirty linen in the public, it smacks of indiscipline. The ecclesiastical prince of the Catholic Church wondered what Pastors expect from their members when they themselves refuse to honour the vows they took at the altar of God?
In his words: "When the going was good, they took vows on the altar of God to stay together in sickness and in health, until death do them part. They promise to make one another faithful partner in the presence of God, their family and friends and vow to be each other's faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow. They promise to love one another unconditionally, to support each other, honor and respect and cherish themselves for as long as they both shall live."
The cardinal argued that as soon as little challenges arise, the so-called pastors forget the vow and the spirit of forgiveness they preach to their congregations on daily basis and opt for divorce. "It shows that they cannot live by what they preach. The Bible says: 'What God has joined together, let no man put asunder.' So why are they putting asunder what the good Lord has joined together if they are men of God as they claim?"

When Vanguard asked him what the development portrays for the Church of God, the cardinal replied with a question "What Church are you talking about?"

He went on: "It is not good. Are they true pastors? Good shepherds of the Lord are expected to do everything to shepherd their flock including their spouses even when they err. If God forgave us in spite of our filth, why can any man who is truly called pastor not forgive any malfeasance?"

Okogie blamed the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, which registers every organization which goes about deceiving people in the name of church, noting that there are several "useless" institutions that have been registered as churches which are currently painting the Church of God in bad light.

I knew Super Eagles would Lose —Says Coach Keshi

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, has claimed that he saw his team's 3-2 defeat to the Congo side in their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, coming. In his words:
"I'm very disappointed. It was not just the result but the way we played in the first half. I was like a soothsayer because I saw it coming and I talked to the boys that they had to be aggressive and first to the ball.
"I've played against the Congolese team before and I know they play tip-tap football. We scored the first goal and that was it. It's a shame that we had opportunities, mostly in the second half, but we could not score.
"I told them (players) they were not playing their game. They were not themselves, they were not playing, they were second to the ball and they needed to change the mentality. They came back in the second half and you could see the difference. But if you are playing a team like this, they are going to come hard and park the bus. And that's what they did in the second half. Who won't do it?"
The Super Eagles are now 3rd in Group A of the qualifiers behind South Africa and Congo.

‘Ewedu’ Can Cure Ebola, Professor of Ophthalmology Says

A professor of Ophthalmology at the Lagos State Teaching hospital, LUTH, Prof Adebukola Adefule Oshitelu, has laid claims that 'Genus Corchorus' popularly known as Ewedu in Nigeria is capable of curing the Ebola Virus Disease.

She said this at the 2014 African Traditional Medicine organised by NAFDAC yesterday at Ikeja, Lagos state. The programme which was arranged for Traditional Medicine Practitioners and Conventional Medicine Practitioners was in
response for an urgent need of cooperation between the two health bodies in order to enhance better and reliable healthcare delivery system.

According to Oshitelu, Ewedu cures Ebola by improving an infected person's immune system, likewise providing prevention against the deadly virus for uninfected persons.

"The qualities inside Ewedu is so much that it will kill Ebola by preventing the virus from replicating and destroying more organs in the body. This would immediately stop the symptoms such as high fever, stooling and vomiting. Ultimately, leading to the cure," Oshitelu said.

She further advised people to consume Ewedu on a regular basis but with strict adherence to its preparation and usage.

"The way it will be prepared will be different from the normal way they cook it. It should be washed and rinsed with liquid vinegar, afterwards blend and cook with drinkable water. No salt, potash or seasoning should be added, take 25cl of the concoction a week and it would boost a person's immunity so that they become impregnable to the virus." Oshitelu said.

However, In a statement made by the Director General of NAFDAC, Paul Orhii who was represented by the Director of Laboratory Service, Stella Denloye, NAFDAC said it has banned illegal advertisement of herbal products and bogus claims of cure for diseases.

"Unpatriotic Nigerians who continue to engage in illegal advert of their products and those making false claims not evaluated by NAFDAC should desist from acts misleading the unsuspecting public. I want to warn and inform them that NAFDAC would deal decisively with anyone found to contravene," Orhii said.

He noted that there was the need to institutionalise traditional medicine in the health systems worldwide including Nigeria.

He said the stigmatising of the traditional health care by modern/conventional medicine needed to stop. So much that in some countries, it is even illegal to practice it.

"Regulation is the key to ensuring that only good quality, safe and effective traditional/herbal medicines are available to consumers especially if traditional medicine and complementary medicine is to be integrated into the nation's healthcare system," Orhii said.

FG denies hiring Stephen Davis as Boko Haram negotiator

These people like to confuse Nigerians sha. How will someone claim he was hired to do a job by a government if that is not so? FG has denied claims by Australian hostage negotiator, Stephen Davis, that he was hired by the Nigerian Government to negotiate for the release of Chibok girls.

Speaking through the Coordinator of the National Information Center, Mr Mike Omeri, today Sept. 5th in Abuja, FG said the decision to hire a negotiator would be made public whenever they decide to do so and that they have no plans to question those alleged to be Boko Haram sponsors by Stephen Davis

"For now nobody has been hired by the government to negotiate on its behalf with Boko Haram. Anytime the government decides to do so, it will make it known to the public. The government is still investigating the allegations made by the alleged negotiator. However, the government has no plan to question anybody because of those allegations made by the Australian," Omeiri stated.

Boko Haram, the COAS and the Cycle of Death

People are confused. They ask how army chiefs can waste their men in the cycle of death. Why will a Christian army chief support a "Muslim" terror organization? Questions like these.

I will try here to explain the cycle of death.

The world is filled with very horrible people. There are people, westerners, easterners and between who run guns; they supply arms to conflict zones around the world to make a big buck. These wicked people are well aware of the deaths these guns cause but go ahead because this makes seriously big money. Developed nations are involved. The "almighty" United States is known for serially blocking UN resolutions to ban small arms supplies to conflict nations especially in Africa. Statistics has it that 90% of genocides, of terror deaths and regional violence are perpetrated not by state munitions but by small arms, mostly illegally supplied in the hands of militia and other criminals. Arms trade is the biggest business in the world.
Money is a key motivator and Nigerians are no better people than all the others in the world implicated in death delivering gun-running. Hausa are no more virtuous than Igbo, nor Yoruba than Tiv. We have corruption at all facets of the Nigerian society, within the civil force and the armed forces.

Our soldiers burn buses and kill innocent children of our religious leaders; they burn newspapers and commit all other types of atrocities. These are the same soldiers that become the nation's army chiefs. They are no angels. When the junior officers commit atrocities, we all know that they are not court-martialed; this implicates the army chiefs in all atrocities and evils committed by the junior officers. The buck stops at their table. And it is corrupt and wicked junior officers like this, under a corrupted system who someday become our army chiefs.

What this tells us is that unfortunately, the Nigerian military is as rotten today as all other facets of our society; top to bottom and bottom to top.

Boko Haram is a business. Many view it as some sort of evil emanation; however to those involved in the war against Boko Haram; perhaps we need to adjust our lenses and see what they may have gotten corrupted into. This terror without head and cogent agenda, makes big money, is a political franchise and is involved in all sorts of deals including drug trade in partnership with MEND as CIA has revealed.

Let's imagine Shekau, who is heavily funded by some crazy man in Egypt or Nigeria, needs an Armored Personnel Carrier, APC. He send emissary to the Nigerian army chief and asks to buy one. He offers to have $10 million cash wired through his CBN connect direct into the army chief's Swiss account. Will the army chief refuse to sell, knowing what our army has been recognized for these years? Do we think these army chiefs are better than the Abachas and Babangidas of our past? Tops, the army chief will warn him not to perpetrate any of his terror atrocities in his village or in the south of the nation.

We Nigerians sadly do not like ourselves; we are known to orchestrate evil on the next village, talk less several villages and states away. We have villages raiding and killing neighboring villages in the north and south over petty disputes, so why do we fool ourselves that the army chiefs will not be interested in making big money to support genocides somewhere up there in "that part of the country," "that Gwoza sef," as President Jonathan refers to it/the north? And after the tanks and APC's are sold and systematically transferred to the hands of the terrorists, will their business partner army chiefs be eager to bomb the goods they just sold to their business partners? Of course not. We now begin to understand the survival of Boko Haram and its impunity from harm of the nation's superior powered army with fighter jets and military copters. Deputy defense minister Musliu Obanikoro said Nigeria can eliminate Boko Haram in 24 hours if they wanted to. He did not lie.

Now, this explanation of how and why our army chiefs get into business-sponsorship of Boko Haram is just an intro. We also realize the army chiefs could have the type of animosity some of the lower of us have for each other and based on this, can even supply these armored vehicles and tanks to the terrorists to perpetrate their genocide for free. The world is a very wicked place and wickedness is not limited by tribe, race or religion.

In the cycle of death, we must not be fooled that the army cares about its own men dying. We see no brothers of the army chiefs dying. Money is the root of all evil and for the right amount of money; these men do not care if officers die. Really, they do not.

The final step in the cycle of death is the death to the northern resident. If these army chiefs are actually radical fanatics, they will be happy with the death of northern residents. We are assuming they hate the north and believe all people who are like them should have left the north or will be frightened enough to evacuate the north when they are done with them.

When we give excuse to the army chiefs that do they not kill Boko Haram members in large numbers and that this proves they are actually fighting the terrorists; do we consider that to them, as with the president, "those people are those people over there," be they terrorists or villagers, there really is no connection and no relationship? The army today allows Boko Haram to abduct men and girls, the girls are married and the men are forcefully conscripted into the terrorist army at knife point. Our army chiefs know this and do not prevent the Boko Haram overthrow of northern farming villages and mass abductions. Now when the army kills Boko Haram en mass, they know they are simply exterminating the forcefully conscripted and unwilling sacrificed youth warriors for Boko Haram that should have been rescued had the army done its paid job.

In the process, Boko Haram helps gather together the hated youth resident in the north and the army cuts them down, this cycle has continued for the five years of the Jonathan administration, leaving total numbers dead at well over a hundred thousand and millions destroyed. We see Jonathan dancing as they die in "that Gwoza sef." It is genocide, a systematic one involving cooperation between the army chiefs implicated by Dr. Stephen Davis and the head of Boko Haram, a bloody wealthy businessman who does their bidding.

OBJ ready to support Buhari if he dropped me for Okonjo-Iweala ––Pastor Bakare

In this interview with Punch's Adeola Balogun, Nonye Ben-Nwakwo and Eric Dumo, Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly speaks on a wide range of issues including his experience as a running mate to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari at the 2011 general elections.

We heard you praising God for the Osun State governorship election despite the militarisation; don't you think that the militarisation was responsible for the peaceful election?I think I chose my words, I didn't use militarisation; I used the word "federal presence." I said in spite of the intimidating federal presence, things still went on peacefully. I have heard the word militarisation used, I do not necessarily subscribe to it. The reason being that the police are called peace officers and they were there to keep the peace. The military has been used lately in several elections because of the major environment, the violence going on and all kinds of electoral malpractices. In other places, elections are like picnic with citizens having the opportunity to exercise their rights. But when you are beginning to hear statements like "blood will flow," "it is going to be fire for fire" and "you will be roasted," you get scared. You begin to wonder if it is a matter of life and death. But that the Osun State election went peacefully, we thank God.

I also said that a time will come when we'll stop suspecting ourselves. There are so many things that we cook up when things don't go our way. We must become mature enough to accept defeat and concede to the winner like Governor Kayode Fayemi did in Ekiti without blood flowing or heads rolling.

Talking about general elections, you were once quoted as saying there might not be elections in 2015, but with what you are seeing now are you still holding on to that statement?
A number of things have taken place since I spoke. I remember it was 2012 that I started saying: take care of 2014 if you want 2015. There are two reasons why I have been saying that we should take care of 2014 and one of them is the conference. The national conference has brought us together to iron out some of our differences. I am not saying the conference is a magic wand that would bring all the solutions to our problems but definitely if there is courage to implement some of the things that we have resolved and are part of that report on the side of the executive and legislature; Nigeria would not be where it used to be. We are not where we ought to be, but we are not where we used to be. We have moved on.

Besides that, part of what makes 2015 a necessity is the 2016 census. Those are two extremely dangerous years. The year you are having general elections followed by census; those things are scary. So, if the foundation is not properly laid in 2014, we are playing with disaster.

Some people saw your participation at the national conference as a signal that you were coming into politics again, is this true?
Maybe you need to dig deeper and find out why I participated. Number one, I didn't select myself; I didn't force myself on the government. I represented the South-West geo-political zone. When the elders met, they put my name down. I pleaded with them that I would not even have the time. But they insisted that they wanted me there and you don't reject your elders if they feel you have something to contribute or they consider that you are relevant.

Two, while I was still battling with who will represent me at the conference, the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, also put forward my name. At that point I decided to give it a chance. But I gave a condition and that condition was that I would not take a penny from the conference; I would not be given any allowance and I wrote a letter to that effect and they replied me. I did this so that if anything went wrong, I would retain my freedom to express myself freely. That does not mean others who took the allowance are bad people. No! We see things from different perspectives. Staying in Abuja is very expensive. I won't tell you how much I spent but I travelled on each occasion with my research team and about three to four staff and we stayed in a suite which is quite expensive.

Have you joined politics again?
I have never joined politics. I am a nation builder, I am not a politician. I sleep well, I wake up well. I have no ambition; there is no desire to be anything in politics. All I want to see is a nation that works. If you ask me today if I am seeking any elective office, my answer will be no. I was asked to be a running mate to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, I was not looking forward to it at all. But if I am beckoned upon to do something, I will pray about it and if I see that it does not negate what I stand for and believe in, why not? The truth is that if good people don't participate in politics, then we will continue to endure the rule of idiots.

When you were asked to be a running mate, did you ask God about it or did He tell you to go ahead?
Several times Paul would say in the Bible that "this is I speaking but not the spirit of God even though I have the spirit of God in me." With every sense of modesty, a man like me would not jump without looking. If you don't look and you leap, you can leap into disaster that would backfire on you and everything you stand for in the society. When my book is out, it would be clear to all the process it took for me to be a running mate.

I sat in my house, leading a group called Arrow Heads which is already public knowledge after Mallam Nasir El-Rufai wrote about it in his book, 'Accidental Public Servant.' We gathered a group of Nigerians we felt could make a change in our clime. People like Oby Ezekwesili, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Donald Duke, Nasir El-Rufai, Nuhu Ribadu, Fola Adeola, Jimi Lawal, Yinka Odumakin, Jimi Agbaje, Wale Osun and a few others. We said to ourselves that we should form the Arrow Heads to produce a change. And when I was given the privilege of being the chairperson of that group, I told them I would only accept on two conditions.

Number one, that I would not join any political party and number two, I would not seek any elective office so that if there is a dispute, I can effectively resolve it. Those around me know that I have no desire for a political office but those who don't know me think I am an opportunist. Gen. Buhari called me on January 15 of that year and said, that he had done his own little prayers and he wanted to ask me to be his running mate. I told him I couldn't because I lead a group and I had given them my word and that my word is my bond. I also told him that I had no desire for a political office; all I wanted to see was a change and be among those who work behind the scene. So, Gen. Buhari asked me to pray about it that he would get back to me. Within six or seven hours, he called back and I told him that I had not consulted my people. The first person I called among others was my wife and daughter and then spoke to Pastor Adeboye twice on it.

Really?
Yes…you see people don't know things that happen behind the scene. I spoke to him twice and he said look, don't be afraid, step in there, whether you win or lose, God is taking you somewhere. I didn't jump because of that. I spoke to my mother and she said she had a dream about it six months before; I still didn't jump. I thought it would be unfair not to tell Bola Tinubu because I had been brokering some things between the then Action Congress and the Congress for Progressive Change before the AC became ACN.

So, I called Tinubu in the presence of Jimi Agbaje and Yinka Odumakin. I said to him that Gen. Buhari had called to offer this, give me a Christian from your group so that I can present to him. I invited the former governor of Ekiti State, Niyi Adebayo to my house and told him that he would be a better person to handle this. Both of us were in the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos at the same time. So, I looked for every way not to take Buhari's offer and I didn't fill the form. I took my team and went to the General and asked him why he wanted me to be his running mate. He said three things, "your passion for Nigeria. You have been a Muslim before, you are a Christian now. You have lived in the North, you were born in the South, you understand the geography and I think you can be a positive influence to pull the nation together. Number two, your integrity, number three, supposing I die in office like Yar'Adua, I want someone who would not sell out, who would still continue my vision for this country." Still, I didn't fill the form.

I went to El-Rufai's house, we sat down there and he encouraged me to take it and I said I was not taking it. I told him I needed to clear a particular thing in my heart. Everyone who had been assistant to Gen. Buhari died before him. Tunde Idiagbon is gone, Okadigbo is gone, Ume-Ezeoke is gone, why do I want to go and put my head in a death sentence. I need to know what is responsible for that, so I can't just jump, I will need to pray through. I told Gen. Buhari the same thing I am saying now.

The day before the final submission of names, former President Olusegun Obasanjo told El-Rufai that he was ready to support Buhari if he could drop me and replace me with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as his running mate. El-Rufai ran to me, that this was what Obasanjo said. The three of us were in the same hotel but in different suites. We went straight to Gen. Buhari and I said to him that breakthrough had come. I told him I had not filled the form and that there were five reasons why he must take Okonjo-Iweala. Number one, she is Delta-Igbo, you would have solved the problem of South-East/South-South. Number two, she's a woman, you have settled the gender issue.

Number three, Christian, balanced ticket. Number four, a former minister of finance and former minister of external affairs, experience which I don't have. Number five, World Bank top executive, international exposure. Even though I have travelled round the world, I have not worked in any organisation, she is a better candidate. This is the form, I have not filled it. General Buhari looked at me and said did Obasanjo speak to you and I said no that he spoke to El-Rufai and I believe him. And he asked El-Rufai to repeat everything Obasanjo said to him and he did. He said to El-Rufai that well, you have worked with him and I have worked with him too, he would have something up his sleeves which we don't know. Buhari turned to me and said, Pastor Bakare, I have waited long enough and today is the last day, if you are not going to fill the form, give it to me, I will look for someone until we can get a person like you. At that point, I became overwhelmed and I signed the form and El-Rufai seconded. That was the process; it was not an overnight thing.

Do you have any regrets accepting that offer?
Not at all. If I have the chance, I will do it again. Buhari is an incorruptible leader. He is a man whose word is his bond. He is a reliable person and he loves this country. I don't flatter people and you know I fought almost all military impostors in this country; there was a time I couldn't stand any of them. But getting close to him, I realised he loves Christians as much as he loves Muslims.

For those who said why Buhari? I remember Adunni Abimbola Adelakun, she wrote why can't Bakare run as President? Why do you have to be a running mate? I just laughed when I read that. Don't forget that Joseph served Pharaoh, Daniel served Nebuchadnezzar, and we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world, so you can maintain contact without contamination. Anything that would contribute to the wellbeing of the people of this country, as much as God gives me the grace, I would do it.

You just spoke glowingly about Buhari, is that why you said if that suicide attempt on his life had succeeded it would have caused commotion in the country?
Whichever way you look at it; Gen. Buhari has succeeded in stepping into the shoes of the likes of the founding fathers of this nation. It is like killing Awo in the West in those days. They jailed him but they dare not kill him. Look at the repercussions of what happened when Saudana was killed. It is like shooting Azikiwe. A time comes when people have such a large followership that you have to be careful about them. Gen. Buhari registered a party and went to contest for election after three months and had 12 million votes. I have seen the people following him running towards a moving plane. He is not loved because he has money to pay them, he doesn't give a dime to anybody. Buhari does not have such money, he does not have a petrol station, and he has no oil well even after being a petroleum minister and former head of state. There was a time he took his children to public schools. Obasanjo investigated him with Haruna Adamu, and didn't find anything against him.

Why didn't you move with Buhari to the All Progressives Congress?
A strategic man takes his time. I moved the motion for the merger of the parties publicly at Eagles Square. I worked tirelessly for that merger to materialise. But when you perceive that your presence, whether you speak or stay quiet, affects some of the people who think you are ambitious, you leave the stage for them. If you ask me if I am in APC, Buhari knows I am in Daura APC, not Ogun State, Oyo or Lagos State so that those functioning can be free to function without fearing that this man might have an ambition and might still want to be a running mate. I have had my fair share.
