Rivers Elders give PDP One Week ultimatum to withdraw Wike

Barely few weeks to the 2015 governorship election, elders of Rivers State have given the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a week ultimatum to substitute its governorship candidate in the state, Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike with a candidate from the riverine axis of the state.

The elders, under the auspices of Rivers Elders and Leaders Council (RELC) also called on President Goodluck Jonathan to prevail on the national leadership of the PDP to ensure the withdrawal of Wike in the interest of equity, justice and fairness to various ethnic nationalities that make up the state.

Chairman of RELC, Chief Albert Horsfall, who disclosed this while speaking to newsmen at Omagwa, Port Harcourt, after the meeting of the elders on Monday, said if by January 5, 2015, the PDP fails to substitute Wike, the people of the state would be mobilised to vote for the riverine candidate of any other political party that can win the 2015 governorship election in the state.

Horsfall said, "What we are saying here is that if the Peoples Democratic Party fails to substitute Nyesom Wike by January 5, 2015, all true Rivers people will vote en masse for the riverine candidate of any other party that can win election in Rivers State.

"Mr President is our son; we are appealing to him to prevail on the PDP to substitute Wike, but if they fail, we will encourage other aspirants to close ranks and produce a riverine candidate who has the potential to win the governorship of this state."

He said, as elders, they were not opposed to the reconciliation initiated by the PDP governorship candidate, but true reconciliation within the party would commence once Wike withdraws as the party's candidate.

Farmers’ Group Donates N5bn for Buhari’s campaign

The Buhari/Osinbajo campaign has started getting their own billions too. A group of yam farmers cutting across some northern states in the country on Tuesday pledged to support the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate Mohammadu Buhari's 2015 campaign with N5 billion.

The group disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Jos.

Reverend Jacob Musa, Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the farmers on the name "Buhari-Osibajo Presidential Appeal Campaign Fund, BOPCAF, said that farmers from Taraba, Nasarawa, Plateau, Adamawa, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger and Kaduna states as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, would feature at the occasion.

Papa Adeboye's Top Man, Pastor Kalejaiye, Drops Bombshell

In his most recent column for Saturday Sun titled Press Clips, veteran Nigerian journalist Mike Awoyinfa chronicled Redeemed Pastor J.T. Kalejaiye's explosive sermon last Sunday in which he appeared to be canvassing support for the APC Buhari-Osinbajo ticket come February 2015.

In his message, Pastor Adeboye's close confidant and touted to be among the favourites to one day take over Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG) predicted 'there would be a pleasant surprise in 2015 elections', telling congregants to 'go and mark it'.

Sounding angry with the way Nigeria is going, Pastor Kalejaiye, regional evangelist of RCCG fumed:
"Of what use is my brother, my blood brother who is not going to move the nation forward? And you want me to vote for him because he is my brother? Don't let us deceive ourselves."
"What are we saying? Let's call a spade a spade, brethren. Things cannot continue this way. Corruption is the order of the day. You can steal and nothing will follow. That's all… Brethren, if you don't do something, something will do you. Wake up!"

He continued, "We have to change our system… Who is a Christian? Who is a Muslim? When I was working somewhere, my boss was a Muslim. I enjoyed under him. My boss provoked me to study further. My boss was always after my welfare. It shall be well him wherever he is today. He is a Muslim. The soldier attached to me was with me for almost 15 years. I never knew he was a Muslim. The day he opened his mouth to say "Sir, I am Muslim," I said "What? But you follow me to the camp. You do this, you do that." He said that when it was time to pray he would pray.

"Brethren, wake up! Who is a Christian? That somebody goes to church doesn't make him a Christian. That somebody bears Christian name doesn't make him a Christian. You are a Christian yet there is no employment for our youths. People who should be feeding their parents are still being fed by their parents. How many youths can get married today without the support of their parents financially? During our own time, we did our wedding, we only called our parents to come and eat. Today, our children who are 35, we are still feeding them."

Boko Haram: Shekau vows to attack Emir Sanusi for speaking

This is why many Northern leaders are afraid of speaking against Boko Haram, if they come after you the government might not be able to protect you from them. I just hope they will protect Emir Sanusi.

Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has threatened to attack the Emir of Kano, Muhummadu Sanusi II, in retaliation for the Emir's call on Kano residents and other Nigerians to arm and defend themselves against the heartless insurgents.

In a new video, Shekau said his group does not consider Sanusi as a true Muslim, and will attack him.

The Emir had earlier issued a call to arms after a series of deadly attacks by Boko Haram militants in Kano. Speaking at Kano's central Mosque in October, the Emir charged the people of Kano to arm and defend themselves against the sect, which is responsible for more than 13,000 deaths.

Militants later launched a deadly assault on the Mosque on Friday, November 28, detonating multiple bombs and shooting some worshippers to death.

Over 100 people died in the attack which was believed to be targeted at Emir Sanusi.

The Emir, who had travelled out of Nigeria at the time, visited the Mosque on his return, and re-affirmed his vow that the Kano people will not cower in the face of Boko Haram's threats.

In a 19-minute new video first released Saturday, Shekau said his group remains prepared to fight and kill anyone who challenges its ideology, and all non-Muslims and "fake" Muslims like Emir Sanusi.

"Before I start talking to my brothers who believed in me and the religion of Allah not the religion of democracy, not that of western education, those who believed in the religion of the Quran not that of the constitution and not religion of the Emir of Kano

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Jonathan, Obasanjo, Atiku, Babangida, Obama, Bush, Clinton, but the religion of Allah," he said.

"Now listen to me Emir of Kano. I am talking to you and only you because of your recent utterances. Let me inform you now that you are late, you should know that you are only but the King of Kano, King of Central Bank, King of money, you are only Sanusi Lamido," he said.

"Our own government is defined as government of the Allah by the Allah and for the Allah not as you define you own government as the government of the people by the people and for the people," he said.

Shekau said his men will fight local hunters, who crushed their advances in parts of the  northeast.

Naira falls flat to the Dollar, the worst in five years

There's austerity, there is fuel scarcity, crude price is crashing, Naira is collapsing. God help Nigeria!
The Naira fell by four percent against the dollar to 187.05 at the interbank exchange market on Wednesday. This is the highest fall in five years on a closing basis, according to analysts.

Foreign exchange experts linked the development to the Central Bank of Nigeria's announcement that its Wednesday's auction at the Retail Dutch Auction System window was the last for the year.

It was learnt that traders and importers, who could not access the RDAS window, rushed to the interbank forex market to place their demand.

This, dealers said, led to huge demand for the greenback at the interbank market, forcing the interbank rate to close at a high of 187.05, from 180.50 on Tuesday.

The CBN said the official window of the foreign-exchange auctions would reopen on January 5, 2015.

Analysts said the central bank might need to defend the naira at the interbank market regularly till the end of the year to minimise pressure on the naira.

"Banks may start selling their stock of dollars at high premium since the greenback is no longer available at the RDAS window till next year," the Head, Investment Research, Afrinvest, a research and business advisory firm, Mr. Ayodeji Ebo, said.

"The CBN will need to keep intervening at the interbank market to keep the naira-dollar exchange rate stable for that period," he added.

According to Punch, a currency strategist at Ecobank Nigeria, Mr. Kunle Ezun, added that "If the rate remains at this level tomorrow, we expect the central bank to intervene in the interbank market with sales of dollars."

What Tinubu Is Doing For Nigeria

I SERVE THE NATION by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu
Statement Released by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding his withdrawal from consideration for the APC Vice- Presidential Position.

I am a Nigerian who loves his country and am hopeful about what it can become. I have seen and conducted myself as a patriot long before I thought of myself as a politician. I shall always walk this line and no other.

After all the political calculations are made and the dust of competition has settled, it must be this nation and its people who stand first and foremost. The question becomes whether we stand strong, able to shape ourselves into our best future or will we stand frail and trembling, burdened by the abject failure to surmount the multiple problems confronting us.

It against this backdrop that I assess any action I take.
Here I come to my name being placed in consideration as the Vice Presidential candidate for our party, the APC. I have labored hard to move this party from being merely an idea in the minds of a few into being a political organization that might win this election and govern the nation in way that gives the people the hope and opportunity they seek. Nothing is more important to me than to realize this dream not for myself but for the people of this land I so love.

I helped to build this party, giving no thought to seeking an elected office because of it. My contribution to the party was never based on the expectation of a later political handout. Nigeria is in trouble and we are well past the moment for such narrow, selfish games.

There came a time during the course of the events when our Presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari offered the Vice Presidential slot to me. Being a normal human being, I was deeply moved and honored that he would consider me for the position. Being a patriot, I had to weigh my potential candidacy in all of its dimensions.

I have concluded that the interest of the party, our campaign and of the nation are better served if I retain my position as the National leader of the APC, allowing me to be a bridge builder across all
divides. Although, I declined the position, I want to thank General Buhari for extending the honor to me. Despite all the noise and opposition around my possible selection, he stood firm and steadfast.
He showed the traits of a leader in holding to a decision he believed was right despite the errant plots against it.
When my name was raised, the political hatchet men tried to chop it down with rumor and lies. Over the years, I have developed a thick skin. The personal attacks did not bother me. I am used to them. While I have a thick skin, I don't have a thick mind. There has been one form of attack that has troubled me. That is the attack based on religion. The PDP and others have stoked fear of a Muslim- Muslim ticket.

I have removed myself from consideration so what I now say cannot be seen as self-serving. I plead with the people of this nation to never allow the power lust of cynical politicians to set brother against brother, neighbor against neighbor. If you look at those politicians who raise this issue the most, they are the least devout and faithful to any religion other their self-interests.

Nigeria has too many secular problems – insecurity, economic collapse, poverty , corruption and misgovernance – to allow inept people to use religion to keep us from solving these challenges for
the benefit of all.
Those who exploit religion should be wary. For there really is a God and he does not like it when you play with his people or use His name to do the opposite of what He intends.

I ask the people to remove religion from the electoral equation now that the tickets of both parties are mixed. I ask you to select the ticket best able to end the downward slide that Nigeria has endured
since this government took over. I ask you to remember that too many Christians and Muslims are poor. Most of all, I ask you to remember that the true religion of the PDP is poverty, APC come to bring prosperity to the people. Please vote for that.

The Nigeria I see is a nation that shall overcome. The Nigeria I see is a nation ready to sweep aside the broken ways of our recent past and the government and politicians who impose distress upon us. The Nigeria I see and seek is one where each person, every man, woman and child may live free of terrorism, free of the despair of poverty and free of the fear that the government meant to serve and protect them has turned its back to them in cold and utter indifference.

I see and seek a Nigeria where progressive democratic governance creates the political and economic space needed for each of us to contribute to rescuing and retooling this nation. And, in the process
of this benign endeavor, may each and every one of us share in the sound promise and good prosperity that shall describe the architecture of our national revival.

However, not everyone that shouts the name of Nigeria believes in this vision. There are many who would have you laid low and our future tossed asunder that they may persist in reaping the unjust reward of their selfish ways. There are wolves in sheep clothing and even jackals in wolf's clothing. I have seen them but not as residents in some strange zoo. They populate the halls of this diminished
government and the party from which this government was born.

We have come to the field of fateful choice. We have been brought to test the scales of weighty decision. Shall we lift this nation upward so that from its higher vantage point we may clearly see the road to our better destiny? Or shall we continue to march the march of fools into the dark of darkness. The current path has but one end. It shall take us into the den of national collapse. We have gone far enough down this wicked avenue to be aware of what its continuance portends.

We must awaken of our own accord, my dear people, before the bell of doom rings upon us. If we wait until that moment, we would have waited too long. Our future, our fate, our destiny would have been cast into the snare of utter misfortune. This is not the song of greatness. It is the poetics of ruin.

For me, political ambition will never triumph over patriotic conviction. This delicate moment affords no space for emotion to intrude to blind us from what is best. The APC is the best and only vehicle to enact the progressive and broad change this nation cries for. I eagerly lend myself to this fine cause without me having to be on the ticket.
This is a time for cohesion and an overriding sense of mission. We must defeat the foe before us and resist all temptations intended to entice us to fight among ourselves.

I sincerely commit myself to the rescue agenda of General Buhari and Professor Osinbajo.

I declare to you, I will work and dedicate myself so that our ticket succeeds and wins the 2015 election -- not for his good, not for my good, not even for the party's good but for the good of the nation we inhabit.

Some may call what I have done a sacrifice. I call it otherwise. It is my patriotic contribution and duty. I do so with a happy and uplifted heart and clear conscience because I have committed myself to seeking the best for this nation before seeking what is good for myself. This is the creed of statesmanship I chose to follow. May this be the creed of our party as General Buhari leads us to historic victory in the 2015 elections.

May the light of a bright future always shine on you and on our beloved nation, the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Pastor Adeboye reacts to Prof. Osinbajo's endorsement by the Redeemed Church

Politics have started real time. The Redeemed Church has dissociated itself from rumours making the rounds that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, gave his blessings to the vice-presidential ambition of a former Lagos Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

The RCCG headquaters denied celebrating the emergence of the law professor who pastors its Olive Parish located on the very expensive Banana Island in Lagos.

Writing on its official Twitter page on Wednesday, the church said it does not dabble into politics in any shade or colouration.

"We are a mission and we do not meddle in politics," the RCCG stated while urging Nigerians to be wary of fictitious and misleading social media accounts dragging its name into the murky waters of politics.

Meanwhile, reactions have begun to trail the emergence of Osinbajo as Buhari's running mate for the 2015 presidential election.

While many applauded the opposition party for coming up with Osinbajo, a cross section of Nigerians are said to have disagreed with his emergence.

Supporters of Osinbajo have disagreed with those questioning his emergence. Online commentator, Dipo Awojide, expressed confidence that the APC presidential candidate being an academic, would bring dynamism to governance, at the national level.

Awojide described the law professor as an upright Nigerian and a role model who has mentored scores of young men and women on ways of "building careers without stealing."

Describing him as a man of deep intellectual persuasion, Awojide tweeted, "As a Nigerian and as a member of the RCCG, I'm proud of Prof. Osinbajo. No apologies.

"Call him Prof. Osinbajo, call him Pastor Osinbajo, call him all you like, but you know you can't call him a thief and a looter. Being neutral in an era of misgovernance and misrule is unwise. You don't have to join a political party, just vote for the best man."

Activist Gbenga Sesan also hailed Osinbajo's emergence, stating that the Buhari-Osinbajo ticket would form a government that would "demonstrate the capacity for competitive action over mediocrity."

Redeemed Pastor, Osibajo to emerge Buhari's Vice President

Subject to any last minute changes, the presidential candidate of the APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari may have ignored the high-wire politics that have dogged the choice of his running mate by settling for former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State, Prof Yemi Osibajo, whose name will be announced on Wednesday as the party's vice-presidential candidate.

Osibajo emerged from an expanded list of Christian vice-presidential hopefuls from the South after a meeting of the leadership of the party last night in Abuja.

According to a party source, who was privy to the meeting, Osibajo was selected because he is a pastor of the Redeemed Church, whose Christian congregants Buhari and the APC are targeting in the 2015 presidential election.

All political parties have till the end of today to submit the name of candidates vying for various political offices to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Buhari and the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun were handed the task of choosing a running mate for the party from the array of candidates jostling for the office following the inability of one of the party's leaders, Bola Tinubu to pick a running mate from the South-west zone.

Speaking to expectant journalists, who had laid siege on the national secretariat of the party on Tuesday, Mr. Oyegun said the running mate to its presidential candidate will be unveiled on Wednesday.

Oyegun said the party's leadership had after due consultations mandated Buhari to announce the name.

Responding to concerns over the delay in announcing the party's vice presidential candidate, Oyegun said the delay was not intentional but that Buhari has now accepted to make his choice public.
Following the inability of the leadership of the APC to agree on a running mate at a meeting, which started on Monday night, it asked each of the three zones in the South to present their choice of prospective running mates from amongst whom Buhari was expected to select one of them as his deputy.

However, a party chieftain insisted last night that the vice-presidential post was still zoned to the South-west and it was on this basis that it presented the highest number of candidates for Buhari to choose from, before he selected Osibajo from the pack.

He said by picking Osibajo as his running mate, Buhari was adhering to the arrangement, which zoned the vice-presidency to the South-west, in line with the pre-merger arrangement that led to formation of APC.

Emmanuel Adebayor will miss Thursday's Europa League tie against Besiktas after Tottenham allowed him to return home to Togo.

Ex-Minister Labaran Maku defeated in Nasarawa PDP Primary

Politics in Nigeria is not too much talk, it is about building structure and winning the hearts of the electorate who have the final say. This example was evident in the election between then Governor Ikedi Ohakim and Rochas Okorocha, while the former was just talking, the latter was reaching out.

From what I observed, this is what affected former minister of information, Labaran Maku, and the decision of President Goodluck Jonathan not to interfere should also be commended.

Maku and seven others were defeated squarely at the Peoples Democratic Party primary election.

Mr. Maku was beaten to a second place by a little known politician, Yusuf Agabi, at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa venue of the primary election. The man is not really known, but he consulted widely.

The governorship primary election which was supervised by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara saw Mr Agabi garnering 214 votes to defeat Labaran Maku who scored 160.

APC Presidential Primaries: The final battle

The stage is set for the presidential aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress,APC, who are upbeat about clinching the party's ticket in an exercise that is poised to define how far the party would go in the 2015 presidential elections.

FAilure is not an option. Hopes are high. Optimism is the word and all is set now for the great contest.
Wednesday, December 10, 2015 is the day. Like a football game, it is their semi final. And so, they have lined up for a primary election to secure the ticket to contest the presidential election in 2015.

But the five of them cannot all make it to the final. The ticket is one and must be clinched by one of them. They have passed the stage of consensus. The idea had come up prior to now but it was jettisoned. To them, the idea sounded undemocratic.
The popular Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos State is the venue where former Head of State, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari ,rtd, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, governors of Kano and Imo States, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso and Chief Rochas Okorocha, and the publisher of Leadership Newspaper, Sam Nda-Isaiah would "clash".Over 8000 delegates are expected to cast their votes, meaning that whatever happens, one person must secure at least a vote.
They are in the pursuit of the ticket of APC- the nation's leading opposition political party.

Primary election
Anyone who emerges from the list would eventually challenge President Goodluck Jonathan on February 14, 2015. This would be the first presidential primary election of the APC since its formation and registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC  on July 1, 2013.
With the exception of Sam Nda-Isaiah, who can be likened to a greenhorn in the race, the others are all "old soldiers" who had at one time or the other participated in politics or wielded political power. In fact, they posses different intimidating profiles.
Meanwhile, the aspirants and their respective camps are already in Lagos for the event. Buhari and Atiku's camps told Vanguard via SMS that hopes are high, adding that they would be victorious. Mrs. Ireti Ojekhoa, Head, Information Management Unit of Buhari Support Organizations, BSO, said "The mood is high. We are confident that we will win. Delegates are sure to vote for our principal".

Similarly, Alhaji Garba Shehu, head, Atiku Media Office in Abuja said: "We are fine. There are very good feelings here. We are doing extremely well. We are optimistic that the outcome will vindicate our feelings."
Though the camps of Kwankwaso, Okorocha and Isaiah could not be reached, it was gathered that they are also confident of victory.
To forestall acrimony that may arise after the primaries, the APC last week adopted an unusual measure.
The party made the aspirants to sign a letter of commitment compelling them to remain in the party even after losing out in the exercise.
The undertaking also mandated them to collapse their individual campaign structures into that of the party for effective campaign of the eventual standard-bearer. The statement by Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, reads: ''I on behalf of myself and my primary campaign organization undertake to accept the outcome of the primaries and actively support whoever emerges as the winner and shall not defect to any other political party or in anyway obstruct the smooth prosecution of the presidential campaigns. ''I further affirm that during the campaign and later in government, I shall be guided strictly by the party manifesto. In the event of my nomination, my campaign team will immediately be collapsed into the party's campaign structure for a properly united and focused presidential campaign."

All members of the Board of Trustees (BOT) National Chairman and all members of the national executive council ,Serving and past Presidents and Vice Presidents of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who are members of the party.Serving and past members of the party who are members of the party, serving and past Speakers, Deputy Speakers and other principal officers of the state Houses of Assembly who are members of the party.
Members of the state's working committee including those of the Federal Capital Territory.
All party chairmen and Secretaries of all Local Government Authorities/Local Council Development Authorities in the country.
All elected chairmen of Local Government Councils/Local Council Development Authorities in the country who are members of the party.
Three elected delegates at least one who must be a woman from each Local Government Area/Local Development Authorities in the country.

Lagos PDP Guber: Agbaje beats Obanikoro + GEJ connection

The decision by President Goodluck Jonathan not to impose anyone as governorship candidate seems to be paying off greatly. If you want to win, go to the people and convince them to vote for you. Simple!

The big example worked well in Lagos as a man who was close to President Jonathan and was seen as a strong contender lost PDP governorship primary to a new comer in the party through the ballot.

About four months after joining the PDP, Jimi Agbaje on Monday emerged as PDP governorship candidate for Lagos State. He defeated a former Minister of State for Defence and Nigeria's ex-High Commissioner to Ghana, Musiliu Obanikoro,who was touted as the leading contestant in the primary.

When the votes were counted, Agbaje defeated Obanikoro by
86 votes. Agbaje scored 432 votes as against the 346 by Obanikoro. Other aspirants, Babatunde Gbadamosi got 21 votes; Tokunbo Kamson, 46 votes and Adedeji Doherty, 21 votes.

The exercise was nearly marred by violence following a controversy which surrounded the number of votes cast by the delegates. When the voting started, the Chairman of the electoral committee, Senator Shehu Kumo, announced that there were 806 delegates.

But when votes were being sorted, it was discovered that the number of votes cast were 863.

All efforts to get the number of votes and the number of delegates to tally proved abortive but Kumo insisted that the exercise should continue.

Amid the resistance by supporters of some of the aspirants, about 60 armed policemen formed a barricade around the ballot boxes and ensured that the counting continued.

When tables and chairs were overturned at the centre, Obanikoro immediately stormed out. But soon after the announcement, Agbaje commended the committee and promised to work with other aspirants.

As the tension heightened, about 200 policemen and operatives of the Department of State Service stormed the venue. Agbaje was whisked away before policemen began firing gunshots into the air.

Jimi Agbaje Wins Lagos PDP Governorship Primaries

Protest yesterday greeted the outcome of the Lagos State governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr Olujim Agbaje, was however, declared the winner of the primaries.

Agbaje scored 434 votes to defeat former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.

Mr Tokunbo Kamson scored 46, Engineer Deji Doherty scored 21, while Mr Babatunde Gbadamosi also scored 21 votes.

846 delegates across the 20 local government areas of the state participated in the governorship primaries.

governorship electoral committee, Senator Saidu, Umar Kumo said "I hereby declare Mr Jimi Agbaje as the candidate of the PDP for the. 2015 governorship elections."

Oritse Femi revealed it’s possible he gets signed with DB records of DBanj

NET recently caught up with Oritsefemi who recently survived a robbery attack in Lagos and he has disclosed that if D'banj gives him an offer, he will join DB records.

'You know D'banj is close to a lot of agencies and corporate bodies and he's been the one introducing me to them, even though most of them know my songs but I'm not really close to them and from next year, I'll be signing a couple of deals and D'banj has told me a lot about them. So my relationship with D'banj is an achievement for me, and trust me something big is coming which I won't disclose now,' he said.

When asked if he's signing a record deal with D'banj's DB records, he replied: 'If possible. When I say if possible, it means we've been working together without even signing a contract, so that's what's up.'

With his remarkable success in 2014, Oritsefemi floated his own record label, MSN (Money Stops Nonsense) Gang and just recently signed a management deal with Avatar Entertainment.

Afrobeat king, Femi Kuti who recently signed a management deal with Chocolate City has revealed the reason behind his collaborations with younger pop stars in the last few years.

Femi, in a recent interview with Channels Television, said the sweet melody of Wizkid 's ' Jaiye Jaiye' made it easy for him to feature in the song.

He explained that the simplicity of the melody also gave him the needed push in deciding to be a part of the song: 'Before I started doing lots of collaborations in Nigeria, I was doing a lot of collaborations in France, so if somebody likes your style of music or your style of play, or wants to use you for something and they will call on you. Music is so broad but immediately I heard Wizkid's 'jaiye jaiye', I liked it, so I spent a very little time on it, we actually spent more time cracking jokes because I think that was the first time we met, I had just finished as a judge on Nigerian Idol and wanted to catch some sleep before my flight out of the country the next day, but my sister persuaded me to create time for the song and I did. The melody was quite simple, the lyrics too are very easy to flow with and I knew it was a good track.'

The song, 'Jaiye Jaiye' was released on May 2, 2013 and aside Wizkid, Femi Kuti has also collaborated with younger Nigerian musicians like Eedris Abdul Kareem, Durella and others.

“I dont care about awards, the street bought 1million copies of my album” – Reminisce Revealed

Recently, the camp of high life singer, Flavour claimed he has sold 1 million copies of his 4th studio album, Thankful in only 5 days of the album's release.

Indigenous language rapper, Remilekun Abdulkalid Safaru popularly known as Reminisce has made a similar claim, saying 1 million copies of his 2nd studio album titled Alaga Ibile were sold.

Asked  if he has received any award or been recognised for his contribution to the Nigerian music industry, he said:

'Yes of course, but I don't see (an) award as a justification for the kind of work I put in, I'm just more focused on my fans, having a wider audience and making my money but for who is the best rapper of year, I don't envy that, the street knows who is the best rapper. I sold a million copies of my rap album, Alaga Ibile without a dance track, I don't need anybody to give me an award because I don't see it as a measurement of success.'

Nigerian Medical Association suggests psychiatric tests for all politicians before elections

Lol. I agree. The Nigerian Medical Association in a communique issued at the end of the National Executive Council meeting in Jos yesterday December 7th, advised that all politicians seeking for public offices in the 2015 general elections should undergo psychiatric test to determine the state of their mental health.

The communique was read by Dr Kayode Obembe, who said it had become necessary for politicians to undergo psychiatric test because of the way some politicians in the nation behave. He also said all psychiatric doctors had been advised to register with the Independent National Electoral Commission that will supervise such tests & all medical doctors to participate in the political process at all levels.

The Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Bemigho Reno Omokri, in this one-of a kind interview with Vanguard's Abiodun Alade, pooh-poohs what he terms the propaganda and lies of the opposition to downplay the great achievements of the Jonathan administration.

On President Jonathan and his achievements
President Goodluck Jonathan is the best president Nigeria has ever had and I am backing this with facts. I am not moved by opinion, I am moved by facts. Let me corroborate my stand with five facts. Number one, according to the United Nations record, Nigeria life expectancy was 47.5 years in 2009, a year before President Jonathan took over. As at today, according to the same United Nations Human Development Index, which is released annually, Nigeria average life expectancy is now 52 years. Since record has been kept, this is the largest life expectancy in Nigeria.

When President Jonathan took over power, the World Bank listed Nigeria as a low income country, but, today, Nigeria is a middle income nation.
In 2010, Nigeria was the second largest economy in Africa but it is the largest economy in Africa today.
Also, according to the International Food Policy Research Institute which undertakes research on global hunger index annually, Nigeria is improving. Prior to President Jonathan assuming office, the country has been sliding on the global hunger index but since he took over Nigeria has been improving. In 2005, our index was 16.1 but in 2013 it reduced to 15 and this year it is 14.1.

On the final score, President Jonathan, during his declaration speech, said he is proud there is no political prisoner in Nigeria; as a matter of fact, Nigeria has become so free under President Jonathan that those in exile were able to return home. Some chose to attack him, others chose to support him but the obvious thing is that there is no consequence because we have a God- fearing and philosopher king as president.

On Boko Haram and Insecurity

The issue with insecurity can best be answered by the military. But I will say that never in the world has a conventional army been used to destroy terrorists. Nigeria has had high success in peace-keeping all over the world because we have been meeting with conventional war. Terrorism is a new threat and we have to develop special forces to deal with this threat and, to the best of my knowledge, that is going on at a very advanced stage and, very soon, we will see the effect of that. I am very confident that in no distant time, Nigeria will overcome the Boko Haram insurgency. Our soldiers are already being trained in special operations so we will, in the near future, bid farewell to insecurity occasioned by Boko Haram in the country.

Impact of largest economy on the citizens
It is an opinion to say that the transformation of the economy is not impacting on the lives of Nigerians. There are seven billion opinions on earth and if you are going to live by that, you will be an unstable person. Facts support the notion that the economic progression Nigeria has made under President Jonathan is trickling down to the citizens. For the first time in the history of this country, we have 14 million farmers registered with the ministry of agriculture. They received fertilizers and seeds directly from the ministry. Of the 14 million, two million are women. It has never been done anywhere in the world; other nations like South Africa and India are coming to learn how we did it. Now we are talking of 14 million farmers which is clear evidence that Nigerians are benefiting from the economic progress made under President Goodluck Jonathan.

The per capital income of Nigeria, which was 1090 dollars in 2009, is 1800 dollars today. Today, you can take a train from Ido terminus in Lagos and be in Kano at the cost of N2,250. You can charge your laptop on that train. You can move within Lagos with air-conditioned fast trains. These are facts but obviously, the opposition will not want to paint the president in his true colour because they are desperate for power.

President Jonathan has ensured that every state that did not have a university now has one, he has ensured that almajiris who did not have school before now have 150 schools of which he planned to build 400. This is a man who has impacted on the lives of the everyday average Nigerians.

In the rural areas, there is a conditional grant given to women that attend post-natal care in health centres. Over 80, 000 graduates have been able to find internship through the Graduate Internship Scheme. 4, 000 Nigerian youths have been given grant of between two million and ten million naira to start up businesses which have empowered and employed tens of thousands of people through the YOUWIN (Youth with Innovation Nigeria) scheme. These are brilliant initiatives that have never be done before to impact the lives of Nigerians.

Sadly, some people with no record to show will speak negative of the president. For 34 years, the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has been left dormant but today, it is witnessing one of the fastest constructions on earth- Julius Berger starting from the Lagos side and RCC starting from the Ibadan side which will ensure they meet at a point to complete the work on time. Where has that been done before in Nigeria?

It used to take nine hours to travel from Lagos to Benin but President Jonathan ensured that the Benin- Ore Road was reconstructed not repaired. Today, that same journey takes three hours and the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Prof. Okonjo Iweala, took that journey herself to verify it. So President Jonathan is impacting on the lives of everyday Nigerians.

Corruption and the president's body language
Let us look at facts and not opinion. In this country, one of the greatest avenues of corruption is the procurement of fertilizer for farmers but today, the Jonathan administration has addressed that and ensured that farmers get fertilizer directly from the source. There is no middleman, thus the country is able to save over two billion dollars annually which was in the past frittered away.

Over 50, 000 ghost workers have been weeded out of the civil service, the FG is saving over three hundred and fifty billion naira annually by that singular act. These 50, 000 have been there over the years.

This administration is not interested in show trial where you arrest people, do a trial with the media having sensational stories but in fairness, how many people that went through this show trial are in jail? You fight corruption at the root and weed it out.

I can state categorically that there is no anti-corruption president like Jonathan but being a philosopher king, he will not dance to the gallery; he will fight corruption accordingly. The opposition has saturated the media with negative information.

-Reno Omokri also assured that Nigerians will start getting factual information about government activities.

Mrs. Juliana Godwin, a 42-year-old Junior Secondary School I (JSSI) student of Junior Secondary School, Gosa, Abuja, has become one of those persons with strong will to change her condition.

Mrs. Godwin, who hails from Riyom in Riyom LGA of Plateau State, had her education stalled by lack of sponsorship, a situation that made her to drop out, in 1983, of LEA Primary School, Riyom.
"I had to leave for Jos in 1983, since my father could no longer sponsor my education to secondary school because he had no money. While I was with my cousin, I enrolled in a tailoring shop to learn dress making. I completed it within a year and six months."

She told Vanguard that in 2001, she and her children left Jos to join her husband in Abuja, where they live at Gosa village, along Airport Road.

An industrious woman, Godwin became the bread-winner of her family. Since had skill in hair plaiting, that became a source of livelihood for her and the family. Later she ventured into hawking of water in a basin in Gosa market to boost the family's income.

"In 2003, I was able to save some money from water hawking. I started pepper and tomato business with N1,000 from the savings. I also went into corn roasting business, but my husband stopped me from the business in 2007," she said.

In 2008, Godwin decided to go into vocational training with a non-governmental organisation called Refocusing Nigerian Talents Organisation, RENITO, where she was trained in soap (liquid, medicated and bar), pomade and disinfectants production.

"Now I can produce and sell the products I was trained on, and I started with N1,500", Mrs. Godwin narrated.

"I came to realise that the business was lucrative and helpful to me and my family. I decided to make savings towards going back to school after I dropped out in 1983."

Governor Fayose of Ekiti State and his precedessor, Kayode Fayemi, on Saturday suprised many when they
shake hands in public. The occassion was the 60th birthday of Segun Oni which held at the Methodist

At the event, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Odigie-Oyegun, on Saturday alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party
governments under former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Musa Yar' Adua, and President Jonathan expended over $28bn on power without achieving any
result. Odigie-Oyegun also said 2015 was God's appointed time for the opposition party to take over from the
PDP. He and the Deputy National Chairman, South, Segun Oni, spoke during the event. Oyegun, who restated that the PDP under President
Goodluck Jonathan had brought untold hardship on Nigerians said despite spending $28bn, the government had failed to improve power supply.
He said, "APC is a party whose time has come. APC is a party with welfarist and people-oriented programmes.
"We won't steal your money. Public money must be used for the benefit of the people. The level of corruption that exists today will cease when APC gains
power. "We would protect our citizens. The life of every Nigerian is worthy to preserve. Whatever that will take
us to end insurgency, we are going to do it. Oni thanked Governor Ayodele Fayose for restoring his privileges as a former governor of the state, describing
him as a brother. He debunked insinuations that there was political
motive behind the gesture.

Buttressing the position canvassed by Oyegun, Oni said, "It is very clear anywhere in Niigeria that the APC is the
government in waiting. The APC would win hands down. I believe this is the ordination of God."

My relationship with Fashola is intact - Bola Tinubu writes

Below is a press statement from the office of former Lagos state governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu...
For a while now, I have noticed and read many published political stories on Lagos politics in particular and the personalities involved that are either concerted, unsubstantiated, pure conjectures or outright falsehood. In this instance, I reference a recent story ran by a major newspaper concerning my successor and me. There is no doubt political charlatans and enemies are at work fueling unnecessary rumour and insinuations and seeking to drive a wedge in an otherwise cordial and respectful political relationship. My relationship with Governor Fashola remains cordial both at the personal level and at the level of commitment to ensuring Lagos State remains on the path of political stability, growth and development.

Whether Governor Fashola had a specific candidate or not isn't the issue here. What is important is to have a transparent process in the spirit of democracy to which we both subscribe.  We often debate, agree or  disagree. But when it comes to concluding on the interest of Lagos State, we are on the same page. The current situation and issues around the Lagos Gubernatorial primary are being overblown. What we have done is ensure that no one is denied his or her rights to participate and compete for any elective position. Such a disposition should not translate into anger and divisiveness of the party as it is being peddled. Conflicts and disagreements is part of every political process. The capacity to solve these conflicts in-house and not on the pages of newspaper is a tradition in Lagos.

We warn the people of Lagos state against speculative, self-serving stories aimed at destabilizing the party and its leadership. The media must be weary of accepting or publishing stories that seek to pursue a narrow political agenda. Rather, they should make their paper a platform for proper news dissemination and constructive analysis such that can help our country tackle the current security problem, create jobs.

While we appreciate, recognize and respect the right of every media house to publish any story, it is important not to be part of the feeding frenzy and not to mislead the unsuspecting public.

At my age and with my level of political experience, I am expected to seek for solutions, work for reconciliations and find a common ground where disagreements exist. That is what I have dedicated myself to in the larger interest of Lagos State and Nigeria at large. That is what Governor Babatunde Fashola and myself are about. That is what Lagos state deserves as Nigeria's pacesetter in terms of democracy and development.

Why Tinubu Is Angry With Governor Fashola

In politics, it's not easy to rise on your own. If you want to do it alone then be prepared for hard times in the tedious journey. That is why even the brightest of men must court a 'godfather' for his support.

All Tinubu wanted was to know Fashola's mind, with regards to a suitable governorship candidate for APC but "Fashola kept Tinubu guessing. He told him he did not have a candidate. Though there were signs and media reports that he was backing someone, but Tinubu could not be relying on media reports about the governor in a situation like this.

"In fact, Asiwaju told him that he had a candidate and sought the governor's support for him. The governor said he had no candidate only for him to emerge with a candidate in the last minute. Asiwaju did not know where the governor stood. I believe with the outcome of the primary, the governor will have enough time to reflect," said an insider.

It was learnt that Tinubu became angry when Fashola, who had initially told him that he did not have any particular candidate for the APC primary, later emerge with former Lagos State Attorney-General, Mr. Olasupo Shahore, as his preferred candidate.

Akinwunmi Ambode, who defeated 12 other aspirants, had remained in public discourse as Tinubu's favourite. And he defeated others squarely in the primary election, he polled 3,735 votes.

While Tinubu is yet to react over Fashola's alleged betrayal, some of the defeated guber aspirants are said to be seriously working on how to get themselves back into Tinubu's good books.
